OCA Module: How to change position of Chatter?
In OCAChatter is one of Odoo’s features, designed to streamline communication, maintain traceability and provide accountability across teams. Found in almost every record view, Chatter is the go-to space for logging notes, discussing topics, tracking record changes and so much more.
By default, the position of Chatter is responsive to the size of the screen. Nevertheless, it places limitation on the form’s presentation. This is where Chatter Position module comes in, offering users the ability to choose where the Chatter appears in their interface
Module history
The need for flexibility in Chatter’s position became evident with feedback from users who preferred the traditional placement at the bottom of the forms to being fixed to the side.Therefore, the first version of the module was introduced, by odoobeing@gmail.com, on the Odoo Apps store under the technical name ob_chatter_position. It is compatible with Odoo 14.0. Later, this functionality was contributed to the OCA repository and used from Odoo version 15.0. Now it is available on Odoo 17.0 and actively maintained by many talented developers.
How to use the module
The Chatter Position module is straightforward to use. Once installed, users can configure their preferred position:
Responsive: it’s a default option, which places the Chatter flexibly based on the size of the screen.
Bottom: places the Chatter at the bottom of the form view, similar to the traditional Odoo layout.
Sided: fixes the Chatter to the right-hand side of the screen
To adjust the setting:
First, navigate to the User Preferences.
Under the Chatter Position section, pick your preferred option.
Finally, save your changes.
The Chatter Position module is an excellent example of how small adjustments can significantly impact user experience.
