Managing Facebook content typically means juggling multiple tabs — Business Manager for scheduling, the Facebook app for comments, analytics dashboards for metrics, and your ERP for everything else. Every context switch is friction. Over time, that friction compounds into missed comments, inconsistent posting, and reporting that never quite matches your internal data.

This post introduces a **Facebook integration module for Odoo** that we built at Trobz — one that brings the entire Facebook page management workflow into Odoo itself.

## What the Module Does

The module connects Odoo to the **Facebook Graph API** and gives your team a single place to create, schedule, publish, and monitor Facebook content — alongside the rest of your business data.

It's built on top of a `social_media_base` module and introduces `social_media_facebook` as the Facebook-specific layer.

## Two Ways to Connect

One of the first design decisions was how to handle authentication. Facebook's API supports multiple auth flows, and different organizations have different constraints, so the module supports both.

### OAuth via Facebook App (App ID + App Secret)
[App ID & App Secret guide]({{< surl >}}/insights/odoo-facebook-connect-app-id-and-secret)

The standard OAuth flow. You create a Facebook App on [developers.facebook.com](https://developers.facebook.com/), configure a redirect URI pointing to your Odoo instance (`<your-odoo-url>/facebook/callback`), and paste the App ID and App Secret into Odoo.

This is the easier path to set up and works well for most use cases. It uses user-based authorization, so the connected account is tied to a Facebook user who has admin access to the pages you want to manage.

### System User Token
[System User Token guide]({{< surl >}}/insights/odoo-facebook-connect-system-user-token)

For automated workflows, cron jobs, and server-to-server communication, user-based tokens are a liability — they expire, they're tied to individual accounts, and they break when someone leaves the team.

The System User Token method solves this. You create a system user in [Meta Business Manager](https://business.facebook.com/), assign it to the relevant pages, ad accounts, and apps, then generate a long-lived token. That token goes into Odoo once — and stays valid indefinitely (or until you revoke it).

This is the recommended approach for production environments where uninterrupted background operation matters.

## Core Features

### Direct Publishing to Multiple Pages

Create a post inside Odoo and publish it to one or more Facebook Pages simultaneously. All content — text, media, links — is authored in one place. No copy-pasting between platforms, no risk of the pages ending up with slightly different versions of the same post.

### Post Scheduling

Set a publish date and time and let Odoo's background job runner handle the rest. Scheduled posts are processed automatically without manual intervention — useful for content planned days or weeks in advance.

### Image and Video Support

Attach images or videos directly to your posts inside Odoo. The module handles the media upload to Facebook's API, so your assets stay organized in the ERP alongside the rest of your marketing content rather than living separately in Facebook's media manager.

### Comment Sync and Replies

Published posts don't exist in a vacuum. The module fetches comments from Facebook and surfaces them in Odoo, so your team can monitor post interactions without checking Facebook directly.

More importantly, **you can reply to comments from within Odoo**. Replies are sent back through the Graph API and appear on Facebook in real time. For businesses managing multiple pages, this keeps customer communication centralized and makes it much harder to miss something.

### Performance Metrics

For each published post, the module retrieves basic engagement data — impressions, likes, comments, and shares. This gives you a feedback loop on what content is resonating, without needing to export data from Facebook's analytics tools separately.

## How to Install

1. In Odoo, go to **Apps** and install two modules:
   - `social_media_base`
   - `social_media_facebook`

2. Go to **Social Media → Dashboard** and click **Add account**.

3. Choose your connection method:
   - For OAuth: enter your App ID and App Secret, then click **Associate**
   - For System User Token: click **Set System User Token**, paste the token, then click **Associate**

4. Select the Facebook Pages you want to manage, confirm permissions, and you're ready.

Once connected, your pages appear on the Social Media Dashboard. Posts can be created from **Social Media → Dashboard** or managed via **Social Media → Configuration → Social Accounts**.

## Why This Matters

The module doesn't add a new tool to your stack — it removes one. If your team already lives in Odoo for sales, marketing, and customer data, Facebook management becomes another tab in the same interface rather than a separate platform you have to remember to check.

For businesses running multiple Facebook Pages (different brands, regions, or product lines), the multi-page publishing and centralized comment management alone justify the setup time.

And for teams that rely on scheduled content or automated workflows, the System User Token path gives you a stable, long-lived connection that won't break when someone's personal Facebook session expires.
